I took most of the winter off from scrapbooking to recover from surgery. I'm feeling very much like my old self these days and although I haven't been scrapping much, I did want to tell you about the 28 Days of Summer Fun coming up at Let's Capture Our Memories. It's Been A While

A month in fact. I don't have anything crafty to share with you today, but just wanted to update you a bit about why I haven't been posting.

I was diagnosed in January with kidney cancer and had my right kidney removed on Feb 8th. All is well, I'm recovering and will not need treatments as the cancer was all contained inside the kidney.

I have been being spoiled rotten by family and friends and feel so blessed by so many loved ones around me.

I have been doing a bit of hand sewing and tried to scrap a few times but just didn't have the motivation to finish a layout yet. Hopefully in the next few days that will change.

Big Brother

We're doing a Big Brother challenge over at LCOM. This is the results from week 1. We had to do a layout, a wintry one, include a photo, stitching, a snowflake, and the colour blue. I enjoyed the challenge and love this layout that I came up with. Scrapped a coupleof older pics of my little guy that I otherwise would have left in the stack of "to do" pics.

This is another layout that I did this week for the Magistical Memories guest design spot for January. I've enjoyed using their product so much and they have an awesome selection. No end to the possibilites. I know I used to veer away from chipboard in the past because I didn't want to take the time to paint or ink or whatever. But really it takes no time at all. With this one, I just dabbed a Tim Holtz distress pad along it and in seconds it was dry. No waiting time at all. And if you choose to use paint, just set it aside for a few minutes, and work on another part of your project in that time. Don't miss out on the verstaility of chipboard!! You'll be glad you tried it.

These are a few pics of my girl and her Dad from last summer. I love them, and always love seeing pics of the two of them together. They are so much alike and share a special bond.

Tie A Yellow Ribbon

That's exactly what I did with this card. I've had this little tree embellishment from "My Little Bit Of Whimsy" for a while now. When I received it in the mail, the trunk of tree was snapped in two, so Steph sent me a new one, but I hated to throw it away. And when I thought of this card, using the yellow ribbon, it was the perfect fix!! Along with the bracket frame my Magistical Memories that I painted a creamy yellow, I love how it turned out.

This is my first layout for the month of guest designing with Magistical Memories chipboard. I love this butterfly. I simply painted it black and added a piece of yellow cardstock on the back. We've had a wild and windy weekend. Lots of rain and high winds, perfect for scrapping and that's exactly what I've been doing. Well card making that is! They're having a Christmas Card Crop at LCOM and I've been having a great time. I made five yesterday and will tackle more this afternoon. Check it out. Here's something new for me. The Blogger's Quilt Festival. Looks like fun, so I thought I'd participate. My blogging has alot of scrapbooking and a tiny bit of quilting. You can see all the other blogs that are participating here. There are some awesome quilts featured there.

This is the quilt that I decided to share. It's probably my favorite work of all time. I finally finished it this past winter and my mom hand quilted it. I think I learned more about patience while working on this quilt than any other. And a couple of new techniques too.

I'm on way right now to check out the other bloggers, looks like it's gonna take some time. Wow, so many wonderful pieces to enjoy!! Thanks Amy for such a great effort!!

Where Have the Past 21 Years Gone??

Well it's actually been 23 years since I became a mother. Our son turned 23 earlier in June and then our daughter turned 21 this week. The time has just vanished, being a mother has been an awesome experience, and I'm sure it'll just get even more interesting from here on in.

This week's sketch at LCOM worked great for this picture of our daughter that I've been wanting to scrap for the past few weeks. You can win some scrappy goodness if you play along with the team, check it out here. There was also an extra challenge this week to use three photos, three embellishments and three colours. I forgot all about it until I was all done, I got the three colours down, missed on the photo and managed bling and flowers for embellishments. Thanks for stopping by!

I love home, it's my favorite place!! This week's layout for our sketch team at LCOM is about a place in my Nova Scotia home that I love. The Fisheries Museum in Lunenburg, our family has spent lots of wonderful hours there checking out the sites! It's a great place for an adventure. You can't really tell by this picture but my sister and I and all four of our kids are inside that big lobster trap. We had a great time. Thought I would take a few minutes today to share something non-scrapbook related. I also spend lots of my crafting time quilting and I've been working on this quilt over the past couple of years. Finally it's finished and in the shop for sale. I think I've spent more time on this quilt than any I've ever made before. It's all machine pieced and hand quilted, my mom did the quilting, she does amazing work. This pattern is called "All Roads Lead To The Sea" and is designed by Country Creations from Strathmore Alberta. Thanks for stopping by today!!

Just taking a few minutes to share this layout that I did last week. My little ones, a few years back, always managed to find something fun to do at Grammie's house!! This was for the LCOM sketch team and their was an added challenge to use packaging on the layout. I used a piece of Pink Paislee packaging, the stripe along the bottom of the teal torn paper and a small piece of Making Memories packaging, the strip and flowers extending from the Prima flowers at the bottom. TFL!!

The days are rolling by, I can't believe another week is half over already. The longest day of the year is fast approaching and then we start in the other direction again. Time flies!!

Just wanted to share this layout I did recently of these two special ladies. They are my aunts, two of my dad's sisters. There were four sisters, one died as a child, one lives away and we don't get to see her very often. These two live nearby and I saw them quite a bit as I was growing up. They are two funny, sweet ladies. Just had to use these pictures in a layout.

Yay!!! I'm the guest designer this month at Scrapbook Sussies!! Very excited to be working with this great kit, it was lots of fun. You can see the kit here and there's an addon kit too! This was a really easy and versatile kit to work with, thanks for this opportunity Lara!! Iwas late getting the kit so only took the time to make three layouts, but there's lots of left overs and enough to make atleast 2 or 3 more layouts and some cards too!!

That's not too bad!! Seven posts in eight days!! Better than last month!

Today's layout is another one for the Scrap-Ivor challenge, use a baby picture of yourself and use the words "When I Was A Little Girl" somewhere on your layout. This was a tough one for me, as there aren't alot of pictures from when I was a little girl. So I had to dig to come up with this one. But I'm pleased with how it turned out and wouldn't have done it without the challenge, and that's what a challenge is all about right!

It's been a busy week, so glad the weekend's here. I'm just home from work, waiting for hubby to get here and then we're off to walk with a friend who's a cancer survivor in the Relay for Life!! Just wanted to take time to get my post in for today.

Welcome to the Let's Capture These Sketches Blog 1st Birthday Party!

We are extremely happy to be celebrating our very first birthday with our amazingly talented Sketch Team. We are going to be celebrating with each Sketch Team member each day from June 1st until June 9th.

If you are just joining us, check out the Let's Capture These Sketches Blog for all the details and the links to the sketches.

As part of our challenge to you over the next 9 days, we are going to have you build the most delicious birthday cake ever! Each sketch artist will have a sketch for you to design with. Each time you finish a sketch creation, load it into the Let's Capture Our Memories (LCOM) gallery with "Birthday Bash Sketch #?" as the title using the corresponding sketch number. Collect the corresponding Birthday Bash Decal after you've completed your layout using the sketch and build up your 9 pieces of the Birthday Bash Cake. You can display the decals on your blog, in the forum, or anywhere you'd like to show them off.

Shoot!! Thought I was doing so well, and then yesterday things just got away from me. Oh well, I'll try to make up for it today by posting yesterday's layout and today's. This first one is another that I did for the LCOM Scrap-ivor contest. The challenge was to use a photo strip on your layout. These pictures are of the new little kids in my life this spring.

And this second layout was for a recent cyber crop at LCOM. This was a challenge project where we could not use any patterned paper. Just a few fun photos of my girl. Hopefully I'll be back tomorrow.

It's April already!!

My goodness, where did March go? This has seemed like such a short winter with this beautiful early spring weather we've been getting lately, I hope it keeps up. I just wanted to take a few minutes to share what I've been working on lately. Over at LCOM, we've started a Scrap-Ivor contest, which is of course a spin off the TV show Survivor. It's alot of fun, check it out here. We are working on week 2 now, this is my layout from week 1. The challenge was to use an old picture, this is an old one of my paternal grandparents.

These are a few of the other layouts that I've been working on. I can't seem to get enough of the corrugated cardboard lately, I love it and love the texture it adds to my work. This is the first time I've used it for a background and will definitely be doing more of that in the future.

And a few cards too, these were made for the LCOM card team, using this months sponsor products, Kustom Die Kuts.

The second week was Monochromatic, my take.

Windy Sunday

Wow, is it ever windy here. It started yesterday afternoon, along with the rain that we've had all week. This morning the rain has stopped but the wind is still really strong. Tomorrow is the beginning of lobster season here and like always, the wind is fierce. I hope it slacks off some today and all the fishermen stay safe.

HI there, just wanted to pop in to post these two new projects. The layout was done for a blog hop at LCOM last weekend. I really love how it turned out, I hand cut a piece of Melissa Frances paper for the large flowers and leaves, and I love how the pearls dressed it up!

I'm so happy to be returning as part of the LCTS sketch team. We have a great team of girls ready to bring you lots of inspiration for this term. I've written up a little list of things to help you get to know me a bit more.

#1 I've been scrapping for 5 1/2 years and like most, am completely addicted to the craft.

#2 My hubby and I just celebrated our silver wedding anniversary this fall!!

#3 I'm a mother of two great kids, and as of this summer, I'm now a mother-in-law also.

#4 I am and love being a country girl!!!

#5 I love old movies, new movies, lots of movies. One of my favorite ways to spend some quality time with my honey.

#6 I am a "winter" person. Please don't hate me, but yes, I am looking forward to the snow.

#7 I also love to make cards, and am the Card Team Coordinator for LCOM.

#8 By day, I work as a bank teller.

#9 I have a few other hobbies that I also really enjoy: quilting, cross-stitch, reading, camping, music, and spending lots of time with my family!

#10 I LOVE to laugh, and LOVE life!!!!

No no, not really!! I just wanted to show you this card I made with the My Stamp Box "Tree For All Seasons" set for the sketch reveal for LCOM. These were fun stamps to work with. Check out the sketch blog to see the other cards.

We're still having fall weather here which is good, I do like winter, but not quite yet! One of our scrappy team members from BC had a foot and half of snow this week, Wow!!

My goodness, it seems like a long time since I last posted, but it's only been a week. I got lots done in that time though, and have some fun news to share too! I'll start with the news. I'm happy to say that I'll be staying on as part of the new LCOM sketch team. Looking forward to working with the new team. Also at LCOM we've started the 28 Days Of Fall Challenges so please stop by to get in on the fun. And the design team revealed their October work last night, so check that out, it's awesome.

Joey and Jac, is another layout from the wedding of our beautiful daughter-in-law and her maid of honour Joey. This one was for the Bling challenge.

Sweet Jessy, the flower girl from the wedding, was for the White Space challenge, Isn't she sweet!!!

LCOM had a cyber crop over the weekend, and this layout, Lovin' the Wildlife, was for the Oh Deer challenge.

There's Snow Place Like Home, another one from the cyber crop, for the Winter challenge.

And the last one for today, Slightly Puzzled, was also for the cyber crop, for the 5 Elements Challenge.

Yup, what a great Thanks- giving weekend we've had here. We had our big family gathering yesterday here at our house, Yummy - turkey and pie!!! I took a few minutes to make a list of things in this life that I'm especially thankful for and then I turned that list into a little mini album. Everyone should make a list of their own, it makes you appreciate the things that we take for granted. Enjoy what's left of the weekend and be thankful!!!

Mystery Sketch

Have you ever done one, they are so fun. Tina hosted one this week over at LCOM and it was so much fun. On Monday, she posted the first layer of a sketch, then each day until Friday, she added new elements to it. The fun is in not knowing what tomorrow's element is gonna be. You have to promise not to peak at the next day's post until you've completed each day! It's great, so this is what I did with it. Yup, another layout from the wedding pictures!!

Another Christmas card to add to my growing collection. Last year, I sold a big bunch, not sure if I want to do that this year or not. Anyway, this was done for the LCOM card challenge, use only cardstock on your card. No patterned paper.

Bridal Party

Finally did my first layout from the wedding. So glad to have finally gotten a few of the pictures printed. This one was for the LCOM sketch challenge on Friday.

I've been away since last Wednesday night at a three day quilting retreat with three friends. Had a blast, but I'm so tired. Didn't get much sleep, but lots of laughter. This picture was taken on the second night we were there from the front deck.

Apples and Music

Today is card challenge day at LCOM and this week's challenge was to include an apple of your card. The team rocked it again, and we'd love for you to drop on over and play along with us. Here's my apple card, I used fabric with iron on fusible web and pressed the apple shapes directly onto cardstock.

Weddings!!!

We've had three weddings this summer. One was of course our sons, I posted a few pictures in an earlier post and will soon be posting some layouts. In June a friend of the family was married and today I have a cousin who'll be tying the knot. I did this layout last night of BJ and Matt at his sister's wedding. This layout was for a dollar store challenge at LCOM. We were to use the white flowers on the stems in a project. I added the leaves and the orange flowers to it. TFL!

Went out last night to a surprise birthday supper for my sister. We had a great time. Although with all the crazy laughter I'm not sure that we'll be allowed back into that particular restuarant. The theme was gift card gifts. That was alot of fun, she sure loved it. And what better way to give a gift card than in a card made with love. This card was also for the LCOM card challenge for today, we were to use glitter on our cards. I cheated a bit and got clear of all the mess by using pre-glittered products! Have a great day Kath!!!

Hey there! Just taking time out from a busy day to post this card that I made for the Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge based on the movie School of Rock. I saw this movie when it first came out and we all really liked it. So being that there are lots of guitar players in our family I figured I would use this fun guitar paper that I had on hand. The challenge was also to include a bit of cork on your card but I had none in the house so had to make do without. TFL!

It's a bit early I know, but I haven't stopped making Christmas cards all year. Every now and then I throw one into the mix. They're my favorite to make. And this week's LCOM card challenge was to incorporate a photo into your card. So I decided to use this photo that my daughter took of my Heartwood Creek mini collection. I was a bit sceptical at first, definitely a challenge for me. But I'm really pleased with how it turned out, might even make a bunch to send out to friends. Thanks for stopping by! Hey there! What a weekend we had, our son got married on Saturday and this past week has just flew by in a flash. We've been busy to say the least. I only have a few pictures of the bride and groom so far and they were taken at the reception. Waiting anxiously to see more. Finally on Sunday, we were able to settle down and relax a bit, and I made time to make this card for the LCOM Monday card reveal. This week's challenge was by Jessy and since it was National Day in Malaysia where she is from, she challenged us all to make a card using the colours in our flag. I'm really enjoying this size of layout. They're quick and easy because I spend less time debating over what embellishments to use. This layout was for Becky's sketch for the LCOM sketch challenge this week. I just made a few adjustments to accomodate this size layout.

Cinema Saturday and Hurricane Bill

Good Saturday morning!!! Here is Nova Scotia we are hunkering down for a hurricane. Yup, Hurricane Bill is supposed to brush our fair province tomorrow. They are predicting tons of rain for us and some wind. The more eastern part of the province will feel more win than us but we've been busy doing a little preventative yard work this morning.

I'm so happy to be the guest designer at the Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge blog today. This is a great blog with a challenge based on a different movie each week. On Friday nights they start out by giving you sneak peeks of a movie and you get to guess as to what movie you think it might be. Then on Saturday, they reveal the movie and a project inspired by that movie. So today's movie is "Field of Dreams". It's been a while since I've seen this one, but it is a great movie. We love Kevin Costner movies. So the challenge today was to make a card with "red stitching" on it as per the red stitching on a baseball! Great challenge don't you think? And I love stitching on my cards so it was a good one for me. http://www.thescrappiest.blogspot.com/ this week. This is actually my last week to design for Liz and I wanted to thank her for the great sketches that she had for us to work with. And for the goodies that came my way, Thanks so much Liz. I've been thinking about doing more 6x12 layouts. I switched the sketch out for this fun size. I find it a greats size and so quick and easy to finish up a layout.

This is Jacquelyn, our "soon to be" daughter-in-law. Yup, the wedding takes place on the 29th. She's a sweetie!

And this week's card for the LCOM card challenge. Dana challenged the team to use embossing so I got out my trusty Cuttlebug, the swiss dot embossing folder, and whipped up this little Christmas card. TFL!
